Investment Team Member

Sofia

2022-02-10

BrightCap Ventures is a Sofia-based VC fund on a mission to uncover our region’s vast, unexplored potential to incubate dominating technology companies.

We have a simple mantra – ‘Global Founders. Local Engineers’. It embodies our personal experience as entrepreneurs and investors – to access affluent markets, harnessing our region’s top talent eager to prove its prowess on the global scene.

In short 3 years, we’ve backed 16 stellar teams, realized 3 exits and co-invested with marquee VCs in the US and Europe. Our portfolio is scaling fast, and so are our ambitions to expand BrightCap’s investment, operations and value-creation capabilities.

The opportunity

We are a tight-knit team and bringing in a new team member is just as exciting for us as it is for you.

As a member of BrightCap’s investment team, you will be involved in all aspects of running a VC fund. From identifying & evaluating opportunities to supporting current portfolio entrepreneurs and the back-end of fund operations. You will be expected to (comfortably) wear many hats, display a high degree of intellectual curiosity and be able to execute on highly responsible tasks, some requiring autonomy, some active collaboration.

This is a full-time role based in Sofia, Bulgaria. Our ideal candidate has 2-4 years of experience, but we are open to breaking that mold to accommodate exceptional talent.

Ready for some CV stat-padding and Venture Capital glamor? If so, BrightCap would NOT be a good fit to you. Our fund has a long-term vision and getting there takes a lot of hard work. This role requires rolled-up sleeves and commitment to learning and achieving excellence in every little aspect of your work. If this sounds like you, here are some of the things you will do:

  • Source and nurture investment opportunities. Represent BrightCap in meetings, leaving a strong positive impression with founders
  • Craft investment theses, including supporting research and data crunching. Draft investment memos
  • Work closely with portfolio companies on resolving roadblocks. Engage and expand your network to help find top talent, commercial and funding opportunities for our portfolio
  • Prepare regular fund reporting and LP updates
  • Prepare capital calls and drawdown notices
  • Support social media, marketing and PR activities
  • Be proactive in taking on internal projects (e.g. developing our data and CRM capabilities, engaging new vendors, automating processes)

You prior to BrightCap

We believe there are a number of backgrounds that can yield formidable venture capitalists. We’ll mostly look at evidence of excellence and achievement, but experience in any or more than one of the following will elevate your application:

  • Hands-on experience in a start-up (co-founder, core-team member, experienced engineering/product/sales professional)
  • Operating experience in a technology scale-up (e.g. corporate development, strategy & operations, engineering, product, growth)
  • Prior experience in VC/PE
  • Consulting/investment banking experience from a top firm/bank
  • Advanced academic degree and relevant research experience
  • Experience in software development, scripting and automation

Some absolute basics:

  • University degree
  • Fluent English, articulate in both speech and writing
  • Fascination with technology and investing
  • High motivation to build from scratch, patience and persistence when dealing with ambiguity
  • Easy-going, low-ego, high teamwork capacity

If this resonates with you, we’ll be happy to get to know you. Please send us a CV and a short note on why you would be a strong fit for BrightCap. Think of it as an ‘investment memo for hiring’.
